Caught in the crystal technique

Check out this stunning card by TV’s Sue Wilson from Simply Cards & Papercraft 134 featuring a fun ‘caught in the crystal technique’.

We always love it when Sue Wilson shares a fabulous new technique for us to try here at Simply Cards & Papercraft. This ‘caught in the crystal’ technique involves using Cosmic Lacquer, Cosmic Shimmer mica powder and alcohol inks on acetate. The effect is stunning and we couldn’t resist giving you a sneak peek of this feature with a step-by-step guide of how to master this technique for yourself.

Caught in the crystal technique

You will need

Cosmic Lacquer

Adirondack Alcohol Inks

Cosmic Shimmer mica powder

white tissue paper

kitchen towel

1 Drizzle Cosmic Lacquer onto a piece of acetate and add drops of alcohol ink randomly on top.

2 Tap Cosmic Shimmer mica powder over the entire piece using the brush provided.

3 Crumple a piece of tissue paper into a ball and open it out, but do not smooth the wrinkles.

4 Lay the tissue paper over the inked piece and use a piece of kitchen towel to stamp it down. You will see the lacquer and the ink come through the tissue paper. Apply more ink if there are any missing areas and leave the piece to dry for a few hours or overnight.

5 Once dry, keep the tissue paper on the reverse and trim your piece into the desired shape for your project. Mount the piece onto white cardstock to allow the colours and shimmer to pop.
