How to create

  1. Tear a piece of backing paper to size – 17cm x 11.5cm. Use a ruler to a rough edge. Apply Lime Marmalade paint through the postmark element of the stencil in a couple of places. Edge with Frayed Burlap Distress Ink. Stamp the postmark and swirl randomly with archival ink on to the paper.
  2. Rough the edges of the topper and add Frayed Burlap Distress Ink to the edges.
  3. Stamp the ticket onto ivory cardstock and tear around the edges for a vintage look. Edge with Frayed Burlap Distress Ink.
  4. Tear a piece of vintage book page to a rough size 14cm x 4cm. Edge with Frayed Burlap.
  5. Adhere the main piece to the card blank and build up the layers. Place the scrap of muslin or linen on top of the book page, under the topper and ticket for a bit of interest.

White Super Smooth card, Yellow & Craft card

IndigoBLu Slap It On Fabric Sparkles

IndigoBlu Acrylic paints – Banana Custard

Distress Oxide Frayed Burlap

1.5inch circle punch

Water Spritzer

Shank Button

IndigoBlu Super Thick Slap It On

  1. For the main image take a piece of super smooth white card 9cm by 12cm. Using the postmark stencil apply Slap It On Fabric Sparkles through it.
  2. Make a wash of Banana Custard acrylic paint and let drip through the dried stencil and let dry. Matt and layer this onto yellow and then craft card. Adhere this to a card blank 10.8cm by 13.5cm with the fold on the shorter side.
  3. Stamp the lady and words onto white card with Frayed Burlap. Cut the words into individual lines and punch out the lady with the circle punch. Afix these onto the card front with foam pads to give dimension.
  4.  Take a yellow piece of card 12cm by 27cm and score this at 6cm and 12cm from one edge to make a valley and mountain fold.
  5. Adhere the white card to the centre of the larger area of the yellow card with the fold at the opposite side to the scored lines.
  6. Finally adhere the shank button to the yellow card using Super Thick Slap It On. Ensure only the bottom half of the button is adhered so the white card can sit behind it.

Gilded frame by Sue Ralph

IndigoBlu Discovery Set in IndigoBlu Mixed-media Special 2

IndigoBlu Artist Translucent paint – 22 carrot gold

Picture frame

IndigoBlu Flitter Glue

IndigoBlu Mega flakes – chariots of fire

Indigoblu phatt foam and Scoochy

IndigoBlu slap it on (matt)

Gold paperclip and gem

White card

Versafine – Onxy Black ink

Archival ink – Cobalt

White posca pen

How to create

1 cut out a piece of white card to fit inside the frame and cover it with one of the lighter colour patterned papers from the kit and emboss the right-hand side using the kits embossing folder. Lightly sponge over the embossed image with the cobalt ink.

2 prepare a piece of phatt foam with flitter glu and dab this over the frame. Leave until the flitter glu has turned clear and start adding the mega flakes over the sticky areas. Lightly press flake into the flitter glu and remove excess flake. Buff with the Scoochy to remove any loose flakes.

3 stamp the lady with the bike from the stamp set onto the left-hand side of the patterned and embossed card and stamp another image onto white card. Paint in the white areas of the lady with park lane, and fussy cut out.

4 from the patterned paper kit cut out the large circle with the dragon fly and the lady with binoculars, cutting inside the frame. Add some stamped images to the lady using the flourish and the 22 carrot gold paint.  Matt this piece onto card with an extra piece of cardboard glued behind it to give it more dimension.

5 Next step is to layer the dragonfly circle.  I found it easier to first place the circle onto the top right corner, place the lady with the binoculars, then I could see where I should cut the circle. The two pieces cut from the circle would then be placed at the top and bottom left-hand corners as in the photo. Before sticking into place sponge the edges of the cut pieces with the cobalt ink. Draw faux stiches around the cut circle pieces with a white posca pen.

6 Glue in place the cut-out image of the lady on the bike over the image you stamped and stick the other lady in place as in the photo.

7 Finish off by adding a few white dots to the raised picture and add the paperclip and gem.

Top Tip – Cardboard boxes are great to use for adding extra dimension in mixed media pieces. Just cut up pieces to the size you need instead of using foam tape.
